Would you want to be a model? Most people are told they can be whatever they want to be when they grow up, even though we all know there are some jobs you’ll never possibly be qualified for, like rocket scientist or olympic swimmer. But most people don’t tell their dogs that, and one dog is challenging what we all think a model really is.
Spot Flanders*, a pug from Nappa Valley, is challenging the way everyone thinks of models. Until recently, models were generally assumed to be popular, less-intelligent people who are allergic to clothing and most kinds of food. Spot* is taking on that stereotype by attempting to be the world’s first doggy underwear model. While he’s not getting any calls from Fruit of the Loom, he believes that he has what it takes. This summer, he did a 3-day shoot wearing some of this years trendiest undergarments. We tried to get an interview with Spot* but he was far too busy for us, though we suspect he might have been avoiding us because of the language barrier.
With a recent court ruling that gives dogs the same rights as humans in play, Spot* could do almost anything he desires. “Modeling was always something that interested Spot*” said Brandon Legotte*, who claims to be Spot’s* previous owner, and now roommate. “He would lay in the most conspicuous places he could find and just soak in the sun and occasionally clean himself, which was usually really uncomfortable.”
While we don’t expect to see Spot* on any billboards in the near future, we are watching his career with anticipation.
