Madison, WI. 49-year-old Carla White* was chatting with her bestie Margaret* when she first laid eyes on (monkey), a new emoji that is taking the internet by storm. “I was transfixed as soon as I saw it.” Carla* says, trying not to cry as she continued her story. “It was like deep down, this monkey really understood what I was going through, and just wanted to be there for me. I never felt like I got that kind of attention from my friends or family and I knew right then that I needed to make some changes in my life.” After several minutes of repeatedly playing the emoji over and over, she got up from her desk, ran to the kitchen and started systematically destroying everything she could lay her hands on. “I started with the cabinets and everything just kind of went red.” She recalls. “Nothing seemed impossible, if my husband hadn’t come home when he did, I might have jumped off the roof. An hour after her rampage started, her husband Brian* arrived home to witness the carnage.
“She kept screaming that she ‘loved the monkey’ over and over. When I realized what she was talking about, I covered my eyes and made my way to the computer desk and smashed the screen.” Recounted the horrified husband. “I paid $350 for that monitor, which really hurt to smash.”
Authorities say that they are investigating whether or not the emoji was designed to induce mania, or if the episode was entirely brought on by her refusal to take her medication that led to the woman driven mad.
